Word reaching the Siya crew is that Ajax Cape Town will lock horns against the German Bundesliga side, VFB Stuttgart, the side arrived in Cape Town ahead of their summer training camp at Ikamva.
According to the statement on the Urban warriors website, the German Bundesliga team will be in the Mother City until January 16 and are set to play a number of friendly games against local and international teams.
The Siya crew contacted Ajax PRO, Thabiso ‘Shooz’ Mekuto, he confirmed the news and said the game will allow the players to get a feel of European football.
“Yes we’ve got a game against Stuttgart and these games will help us to get used to unknown opposition especially European opponent. We played and lost 2-1 against PEC Zwolle yesterday, so we take these games like our second phase of pre-season preparation. Playing a local opponent doesn’t always help because we know them and they know us.
“In terms of fresh ideas and motivation, this will benefit our team. It was nice to see Kamohelo Mokotjo playing and we can be very fortunate in Cape Town to see such teams coming here. After Stuttgart, we are expecting a Norwergian team to visist the country that will definitely look for a quality team to help them prepare for their pre-season,” said Mekuto.
The report further states that Stuttgart will also visit Robben Island, Table Mountain and conduct a community scheme program in Phillipi, a local township outside of Cape Town.
The team’s head coach, Thomas Schneider, revealed that the purpose of their training camp in Cape Town is to improve the team’s form ahead of the season in Germany.
VFB Stuttgart is scheduled to face off Supersport United in January 09, PEC Zwolle on January 11 and Ajax Cape Town next Tuesday, January 14 at Phillipi stadium, kick of is at 18:30.
