Ajax Cape Town will be hosting the club's end-of-the-season awards ceremony at the Crystal Towers hotel in Century City tonight.
The Ikamva-based club had their ups and downs this season, where they started their campaign with Muhsin Ertugral at the helm who later resigned in January due to personal reasons following his guardian’s death back at home in Turkey.
His assistant, Ian Taylor, was appointed interim coach until former Pirates coach, Roger De Sa, was appointed in February.
The Urban Warriors finished on position 12 with 35 points from 30 matches.
One of their most consistent performers was Finnish shot-stopper, Anssi Jaakkola, who is set to scoop an award or two tonight.
He has also been nominated by the PSL for the Goalkeeper of the Season award after his finest performances together with Kaizer Chief’s Itumeleng Khune and Wits’ Moeneeb Josephs. His fellow teammates, Abbubaker Mobara and Keagan Dolly are nominated for the Young Player of the Season alongside Bloemfontein Celtic's Gabadinho Mhango.
Speaking to the Siya crew, PRO, Thabiso Mekuto, revealed that the players will be rewarded for their work and get recognition as well.
“I cannot reveal who is likely to be awarded or nominated for which award, but I can confirm the club will host awards tonight. If you talk about categories, I can give you. We have the rookie of the year, sportsman of the year, player’s player of the year, player of the year and the CEO’s award that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a player, it could go to anyone involved in the club."
"We don’t have the top goal scorer award because you’ll find that a striker has four goals and then it’s a joke to have that award,” said Shooz.
