Ajax U19 Ready For COPA

News coming out of Amsterdam is that  Ajax Cape Town have arrived in Amsterdam ahead of the Copa Amsterdam Tournament which is set to run from June 7-9.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, the Urban Warriors jetted out of the country last week for their European tour. The teams participating in the Copa Amsterdam tournament are AFC Ajax, Fluminense FC, Hamburger SV FC, Men United FC, Cruzeiro FC, Panathinaikos FC, FC Aerbin and Ajax Cape Town.

The Urban Warriors are the defending champions and will be looking to put the disappointment of finishing the Terborg Tournament in fourth place, behind them.

Speaking to the club's website, coach, Maahier Davids, said they are playing in their second tournament of the European tour this weekend.

"There are a number of top U19 teams playing in this tournament. We are in the same group as Ajax Amsterdam, Fluminense and Hamburger SV. We have a strong squad of players many of whom played in the Copa last year; we are also the national U19 champions of South Africa after we defended our Metropolitan Premier Cup title in April this year. We are the current Copa Amsterdam tournament champions having won the title in 2013 and I'm looking forward to defending our title this year."

"Many of our players have been playing together for the last two or more years and that’s a huge advantage going into the Copa Amsterdam. We will approach the tournament on a game by game basis, we will need to get a good result in the first game and then build on that performance. We play Fluminense in our first game on Saturday; we expect a tough game but will be looking to avenge our semi-final defeat in the Terborg Tournament last week," added Davids.

The groups for the 2014 Copa Amsterdam are:

Group A: AFC Ajax Amsterdam, Ajax Cape Town, Fluminense, Hamburger SV.

Group B: Men United, Cruzeiro, Panathinaikos, FC Aerbin.
