Ajax Cape Town have continued their habit of promoting players from their youth side to the senior ranks, with two more teenagers being rewarded today.
The club confirmed this afternoon that both Darren Johnson and Sirgio Kammies have been promoted into the club’s senior side today after managing to impress Roger de Sa and his technical team.
Both Johnson, 19, a goalkeeper, and right back, Kammies, 18, have come through the club’s youth ranks and played a vital role as Ajax’s youth side marched into the final of this year’s Metropolitan Cup final in the Mother City.
The pair were unable to help their side avoid defeat against SuperSport United in the final, however clearly showed something in the tournament that prompted De Sa to recommend that they spend some time with their professional elders.
Ajax have a history of promoting players from their youth that go on to be first team regulars, with the likes of Travis Graham, Abbubaker Mobara, Rivaldo Coetzee, Riyaad Norodien and more having started out in their youth setup.
