If word coming from the Ajax Cape Town camp is anything to go by, goalkeeper, Anssi Jaakkola, could be set for a stay at the club.
Following widespread speculation that the Finnish shot-stopper was on his way out at the Urban Warriors, coach Roger De Sa insists that the keeper will not be leaving the Ikamva side.
As previously reported by the crew on various platforms, the club was set to do a straight-deal for the goalkeeper following their sponsorship withdrawal by MTN, with a view to meet financial demands. However, it now seems that Jaakkola will be staying put in Cape Town.
Former Bafana Bafana keeper, De Sa, insists that the 27-year-old goalminder is in his plans for the upcoming campaign, and will not be jetting off to Europe or any PSL club as previously speculated.
“As far as I know, these are just rumours. The keeper is staying with us. He’s got a contract with the club and we’d like to have him in our squad for the season ahead. We haven’t received anything directly to the club, and we treat the news as speculation. I expect all my players on the 23rd of June, and he’s included in that. He’s done well for us last season,” said De Sa.
Jaakkola made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Urban Warriors this past season, and was named the club’s Player of the Year as well as Player’s Player of the Year.
He was also nominated by the PSL for the Goalkeeper of the Season award after his fine performances, together with Kaizer Chief’s Itumeleng Khune and Wits’ Moeneeb Josephs, with Khune eventually scooping the award.
