With the NFD Play-Offs continuing at the Cape Town Stadium tomorrow (Sunday) with a clash between Mother City rivals, Santos and Chippa United, log leaders Mpumalanga Black Aces will be hoping for a draw which will see them return to the PSL with two games to spare.
AmaZayoni are currently in the pound seats on the verge of big things after picking up six points from their opening two games, but should they somehow conspire to come a cropper in their return matches with the Chilli Boys and Santos - it could be a different story.
If the People’s Team want to overhaul Aces, Ian Palmer’s outfit requires a good win over both Chippa and Aces, who they face in Mpumalanga on Saturday 29 June, while they must also hope for a favour from Mark Harrison’s team when Aces are back in Cape Town next Wednesday 26 June.
Basically Aces require just a point to be crowned play-Off champions but anything can happen.
Ask their vice-captain, Bafana Nhlapo formerly of Blackburn Rovers. He knows only too well what it’s like to get so close yet ultimately fail at the final hurdle. Last season AmaRover needed just one point from their final few games to qualify for the Play-Offs but luck was not on their side.
This time the goalkeeper says he won’t let it slip.
“Obviously we’re all going to be glued to the television on Sunday,” Nhlapo tells Soccer-Laduma. “It going to be tough as nobody wants to lose that match. If it ends in a draw we’ll be celebrating, otherwise the team will have to wait for either the Chippa or Santos clash where the champagne bottle will be popped open.”
