Absa Premiership Report: SupeSport United v Free State Stars 25 April 2018
Result: SuperSport United 3-2 Free State Stars
Date: 25 April 2018
Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium
SuperSport United boosted their Absa Premiership survival hopes with a thrilling 3-2 win over Free State Stars on Wednesday evening.
Kaitano Tembo's men came into the clash needing a win after Ajax Cape Town's victory over Baroka on Tuesday sent them into the relegation/play-off spot.
Nine minutes into the first half, SuperSport were awarded a penalty. Thabo Mnyamane stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 1-0.
Tembo's charges went close to doubling their lead on 31 minutes as Mnyamane played in Aubrey Modiba, who rifled his effort just wide of the upright.
Luc Eymeal's men hardly showed any attacking intent in the first half and spent most of the stanza sitting back as Ronwen Williams barely had a save to make heading into the break.
After a quiet start to the second half, Stars managed to level matters on the hour mark as SuperSport defender Richard Boateng deflected Siphelele Mthembu's shot into his own net.
The home side pushed for another goal and they restored their lead on 68 minutes thanks to a strike from Modida.
However, Stars leveled matters once again with 14 minutes remaining as Mobbie found the back of the net with a powerful strike.
Matsatsantsa threw numbers forward in search of a winning goal in the closing stages and they were rewarded in the 89th minute thanks to a strike from Teboho Mokoena to lift them back to safety at Ajax's expense with two games left.
