Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium
Platinum Stars narrowly missed out on a top eight spot despite claiming a 1-0 win over SuperSport United in their final game of the season.
A lot was at stake at Lucas Moripe stadium as Supersport United was looking to give their home supporters one last victory to write home about.
It was the hosts who got out of the blocks the quickest when Bradley Grobler turned his man brilliantly only to send his shot straight to the Stars keeper.
Matsantsantsa were on attack again and found the back of the net through Jeremy Brockie’s header but the assistant flagged the forward for offside.
The matched lacked any real opportunities but saw Clayton Daniels brilliantly recover to block Benson Shilongo’s effort with the forward having only the keeper to beat.
Platinum Stars looked to be on the ascendency as the half went on but with no luck in front of goal as the half ended 0 – 0.
Dikwena charged early in the second half and striker Bongi Ntuli found the back of the net just two minutes after the restart to put his side into the lead.
Both teams seemed to be lacking attacking prowess and goal scoring opportunities were few and far between.
It was Supersport United’s Aubrey Modiba who came close in the 85th minute after his well-struck shot forced Hoffman to make a save.
Ntuli’s second half goal proved to be the winner as Platinum Stars did well to see out the result and seal all three points.
