SuperSport Pick Up First Win Of the League Season

Absa Premiership

Result: SuperSport United 1-0 AmaZulu

Date: 8 August 2018

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

SuperSport United picked up their first three points of the 2018/19 Absa Premiership season with a slender 1-0 win over AmaZulu at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.

The opening 45 minutes was certainly not the most entertaining with both sides poor in the final third of field.

SuperSport controlled the start of the match, but their decision making was poor with their passing missing the mark as they gifted possession to the Durban side.

AmaZulu struggled with the pace of the game in the opening half and saw very little of the ball.

Still, despite SuperSport’s dominance their shooting was horrible in front of goal and they entered the half time break locked at 0-0.

The home side came out determined at the start of the second half and took the lead in in the 48th minute thanks to a clinical strike from Evans Rusike, 1-0.

AmaZulu tried to find their way back into the game after going behind, but they struggled to build a sustained period of possession.

Instead, United controlled the flow of play and came close to scoring a second goal in the 70th minute when a shot from Rusike sailed inches wide of the target.

SuperSport killed off the game in the final ten minutes of the game as they starved AmaZulu of the ball as they picked up their first win of the season.

Here's how they lined up:

SuperSport: Williams, Kekana, Khumalo, Daniels, Bhasera, Furman, Mokoena, Modiba, Lakay (Lungu 73’), Rusike (Gould 89’), Keene (Grobler 83’).

Subs: Pule, Gould, Letsholonyane, Mbule, Grobler, Phala, Lungu

AmaZulu: Sikhakhane, Van Heerden, Slawula, M Gumede, Morton (Khenyeza 57’), Vilakazi, Lumkwana (Hlalele 64’), Sithebe, Ramphela, Cele (Nomvethe 81’).

Subs: Murambadoro, Nyongo, Darpoh, Hlalele, Nomvethe, Khenyeza, Tade.
