It was SuperSport who looked the livelier side an carved out the first opportunity in the eighth minute but Modiba sliced his effort wide of goal.

Thuso Phala delivered in a quality free kick in the 15th minute but defender Azubuike Egwueke's near-post flick sailed over the bar.

The deadlock was finally broken in the in the 24th minute when Richard Boateng turned his man and delivered a peach of a cross which Modiba headed home to give his side a 1-0 lead.

Bradly Grobler forced Jody February into a very good save in the 42nd minute and denied Matsantsantsa a second as the men from Pretoria took their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

The second half started on a slow pace as Ajax attempted to claw their way back into the game.

After 60 minutes, Tashreeq Morris came very close to finding the equaliser but his stinging effort from range was well kept out by Reyaad Pieterse who kept his team in the lead

The Urban Warriors were dealt a blow when veteran defender Reece Evans was off by injury as he was replaced by Yagan Sasman.

Despite Ajax’s attempts to level the scores, SuperSport managed to hold on to their solitary first-half goal and claim a valuable victory in their Absa Premiership hunt.
