Absa Premiership Report: Polowkane City v Cape Town City 25 April 2018
Result: Polokwane City 1-1 Cape Town City
Date: 25 April 2018
Venue: Old Peter Mokaba Stadium
Cape Town City stretched their winless run in the Absa Premiership to four matches after drawing 1-1 with Polokwane City on Wednesday night.
Polokwane came into the match knowing three points would boost their survival hopes, while the visitors were hoping to end a three-game winless run.
The game's first chance arrived after 15 minutes, with Edmilson Dove firing just wide at the far post after getting on the end of Surprise Ralani's free-kick.
Harold Ndlovu came to Polokwane's rescue after 32 minutes as he produced a fine save to deny to keep out Roland Putsche's strike.
However, it was Rise and Shine who broke the deadlock just before the break when Thapelo Tshilo rose above his marker to headed home from close range.
The Citizens came out firing in the second half, although they found Rise and Shine shot-stopper Ndlovu at his best on the night.
Benni McCarthy's charges eventually leveled matters on 77 minutes thanks to composed finish from Thamsanqa Mkhize following a free-kick from Ayanda Patosi.
Patosi did go close to finding a winning goal with five minutes remaining, but he failed to direct his shot on target from close range.
In the end, 1-1 was how the score remained as Polokwane are yet to secure their safety from the play-off spot.
