SuperSport United claimed the spoils in a five-goal thriller, as they defeated Polokwane City 3-2 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
The visitors got off to the best possible start as they took the lead inside the opening minute as Morgan Gould rose well to head home Teboho Mokoena's cross.
Polokwane nearly hit back in the 11th minute when Jabulani Maluleke's free-kick found Rodney Ramagalela, who headed wide of Ronwen William's upright.
The hosts continued to push for an equaliser and they were rewarded in the 28th minute as Simphiwe Hlongwane lifted the ball to the far post, where Tshepo Tema was on hand to head home.
The equaliser looked to have sparked Polokwane into life, as they continued to threaten with the pace down the flanks.
While SuperSport were left defending for the lives in the closing stages of the half with Ramagalela causing a lot of problems in the final third.
The visitors came out firing in the second half and restored their lead in the 58th minute as Jeremy Brockie fired home a superb volley from a tight angle.
SuperSport's joy was short-lived, as Rise and Shine hit back four minutes later as Maluleke played in Vusimusi Mngomezulu, who showed great composure to slot home from a tight angle, 2-2.
It was an end-to-end affair and Stuart Baxter's charges restored their lead in the 76th minute as Reneilwe Letsholonyane played in Thuso Phala, who calmly slotted past Chigova, 3-2.
Rise and Shine opted for an attacking change after 84 miutes as Puleng Tlolane replaced Walter Musona.
Polokwane pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages but Baxter's charges managed to hold out till the final whistle to claim victory.
