City up to fifth with Arrows win

Absa Premiership
Result: Polokwane City 2-0 Golden Arrows
Date: 09 March 2019
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Polokwane City jumped from sixth to fifth with a 2-0 victory over Golden Arrows in their Absa Premiership match on Saturday.
With four changes from their midweek clash, City grabbed the lead on 13 minutes when Mohammed Anas’s shot from outside the area found the bottom corner, 1-0.
Danny Venter’s pin-point free-kick almost handed Arrows the equaliser, but George Chigova stretched to the right to save for a corner
Minding the slow play, neither side managed to crack the whip further in the remainder of the half.
The second half promised a more fired up affair, with Arrows reformulating their stall with the introduction of Siyabonga Dube from the bench for Danny Phiri.
City slightly leaned to the consolidation route after Sammy Seabi replaced Anas on 63 minutes, but it would turn as just smoke-screen.
The scarcity of clear-cut chances had Jozef Vukusic chasing his mantra and going on the attack through Charlton Mashumba who replaced Puleng Tlolane.
This seemed to fire up the host, as Nkosinathi Sibisi nearly found his own net with a mistimed header, but Gumede scurried back to flick for a corner midway through the half.
From the corner, Mashumba got on the end of Bongile Booi’s downward header effort to poke in the second from the far post on 77 minutes, 2-0.
The Rise and Shine move up to fifth place with the win, ahead of SuperSport United who host Free State Stars on Sunday.
