Goals from Justin Shonga and Thembinkosi Lorch guided Orlando Pirates to a 2-0 win over Platinum Stars at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Bonginkosi Ntuli almost opened the scoring in the third minute with a stinging volley, but Jackson Mabokgwane made a crucial save to tip the effort out for a corner.
A minute later, Thembinkosi Lorch had a chance at the other end, following a counter-attack but Dino Visser kept the scores level with a great stop.
The pace of the match slowed down after 20 minutes, following a bumper start from both sides, with clear cut chances hard to come by, as the heat took it's toll as the water break was utilised.
Justin Shonga broke the deadlock in the 27th minute, with a header at the near post following a pin-point cross from Innocent Maela on the left wing.
Sibusiso Msomi fancied his chances of finding the equaliser seven minutes from halftime, with a right-footed curler from outside the box but he was off the mark.
Musa Nyatama almost doubled the Buccaneers' lead four minutes before the break, with a left-footed strike that rattled the side-netting, as the score remained 1-0 to the visitors at the break.
Shonga nearly got his second goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half with a sumptuous right-footed curling strike from just outside the box that missed the target by inches.
Milutin Sredojevic was forced into a change a minute after the hour as central defender Gladwin Shitolo went down with an injury and was replaced by Marshall Munetsi.
Lorch got the cushion goal for the Bucs with 18 minutes remaining after being gifted a lot of space to pick his spot from the centre of the box and he duly slotted into far corner, 0-2.
Pirates Debutant Diamond Thopola was introduced with eight minutes to go, replacing Mpho Makola who captained the side in the absence of Thabo Matlaba.
Dikwena looked dead and buried in the last few minutes as the Soweto giants ran out 2-0 winners on the day.
