Dikwena Stretch Winless Run To Four Games

Absa Premiership

Result: Platinum Stars 1-1 Free State Stars

Date: 26 April 2016

Venue: Moruleng Stadium

Platinum Stars stretched their winless run in the Absa Premiership to four games, after they drew 1-1 with Free State Stars.

In the opening five minuets Benson Shilongo was given space in the edge of the box to go for glory but fortunately for Stars he swerved his left footed shot narrowly wide.

It was not surprising as in the tenth minute Henrico Botes gave Dikwena the lead. Gerald Phiri hit an inch perfect free-kick from the right channel and Botes met the cross with the header inside the penalty area to make it 1-0.

In the 18th minute Nhlanhla Vilakazi equalised for Ea Lla Koto following constant pressure from Stars. The midfielder hit a wonderful right footed curling shot from outside the box that found the roof of the net, 1-1.

Vuyo Mere went close to restoring Dikwena's lead in the 24th but Thela Ngobeni was on hand to keep out the midfielder's effort.

The intensity of the game slowed down after 35 minute as both teams were looking to build patiently from the back.

In the 42nd minute Solomon Mathe had a rare chance to score inside the box but he fluffed his chance following a corner-kick floated into the area.

The match went into the half-time break with both sides having come to the party - especially in the first half-an-hour - at 1-1.

Dikwena were applying more pressure searching for the goal to go ahead once again.

Five minutes later Phiri almost grabbed the lead with a shot from distance that sailed just wide of the upright.

In the 67th minute, Ndumiso Mabena was introduced in for the midfielder Benson Shilongo as Dikwena were going on an all out attack.

Mathe had a golden opportunity to put Dikwena in front after 78 minutes a good position to score but he shot wide from a tight angle.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but the score remained 1-1 at the full-time whistle.
