Cape Town City moved to within one point of Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, after defeating Platinum Stars 1-0 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
Benni McCarthy's charges dominated the encounter from the onset, but they were unable to break down the Stars defence.
The Citizens managed to carve out their first chance after 22 minutes, when Lyle Lakay picked out Nana Akosah-Bempah, who fired over the crossbar from close range.
Dikwena, meanwhile, looked threatening in glimpses, but they were let down by their decision-making in the final third.
That proved to be the trend for both sides for the rest of the half as they went into the break scoreless.
10 minutes into the second half, City went agonisinly close to breaking the deadlock, when Thamsanqa Mkhize rattled the woodwork.
Stars had a chance of their own in the 65th minute, when Vuyo Mere's free-kick found Robert Ng'ambi, who headed inches wide of the upright.
With 20 minutes remaining Roger de Sa introduced Manti Mekoa for Dikwena debut as he replaced Lehlogonolo Masalesa.
City eventually broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute courtesy of a strike from Roland Putsche, 0-1.
Dikwena pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but City managed to see off the late surge from the hosts to secure three points.
