Platinum Stars Relegated To The NFD
Result: Platinum Stars 1-2 AmaZulu
Date: 25 April 2018
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Platinum Stars have been relegated to the National First Division after they lost 2-1 to AmaZulu at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Wednesday.
Dikwena came into the clash knowing that their fate was not in their hands, as they needed SuperSport United to lose in order to keep their top flight status alive for another round.
The hosts went close to taking the lead after 14 minutes but Tshabangu's free-kick was parried away by goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha.
Roger de Sa's men were restricted to efforts from distance and they tested Mbatha once again, with Usuthu shot-stopper doing well to keep out Wangu Gome's effort.
AmaZulu, meanwhile, struggled to carve out any clear-cut chances as Stars goalkeeper Mbongeni Mzimela enjoyed a quiet opening 45 minutes.
The game's opening goal arrived on the hour mark as Ovidy Karuru sent a fine header past Mzimela following a cross from Sbusiso Mabiliso.
Dikwena looked to hit back in the 73rd minute but Mbatha was alert to deal with Bongi Ntuli's left-footed strike.
However, AmaZulu grabbed their second in the 82nd minute with Mhengi Cele firing past Mzimela from close range.
Letsie Koapeng pulled one back for Dikwena in the closing stages, but it was enough as Usuthu claimed the win while Stars were relegated.
