Mabena Hands Dikwena Victory Over Aces

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Platinum Stars 1-0 Mpumalanga Black Aces

Date: 20 March 2016

Venue: Royal Bafokeng stadium

A second-half goal from Ndumiso Mabena handed Platinum Stars a 1-0 win over Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The win is Dikwena’s 12th of the league season and sees them in third place on the table with 43 points, five points behind second placed Bidvest Wits.

The loss is Aces’ sixth of the league season and sees them in fifth place on the table with 37 points, two points adrift of fourth placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Stars suffered an early set-back when Bongi Ntuli had to leave the field injured in the 18th minute and was replaced by Eleazar Rodgers.

The first significant shot on goal came on the half hour mark courtesy of Aces’ Aubrey Ngoma, but his effort sailed just past the post.

That was about as exciting as the first half got with the sides entering the break locked at 0-0.

The second 45 produced more goalmouth action with Jackson Mabokgwane making a great save to deny Stars’ Tlou Segolela three minutes after the restart.

Masibusane Zongo nearly gave Stars the lead in the 57th minute when his free-kick from just outside the box struck the woodwork.

Ten minutes later the home side did take the lead when Mabena turned home a pass from Sibusiso Msomi to make it 1-0.

Aces tried to find their way back into the match after that, but the Stars defence stayed firm as they picked up all three points.

Platinum Stars: Mzimela, Nhlapo, Sithole, Tshabalala, Mere, Mathe, Mabena, Msomi, Zongo (Gumede 77’), Segolela (Kodisang 70’), Ntuli (Rodgers 18’).
