SuperSport Into Top Eight With Win Over Dikwena

Absa Premiership

Result: Platinum Stars 0-2 SuperSport

Date: 17 April 2016

Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium

SuperSport United moved up to seventh in the Absa Premiership standings after a 2-0 victory at Platinum Stars on Sunday.

Dikwena put some early pressure on SuperSport as Tlou Segolela got himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but he sent his shot wide.

Both sides were looking to attack and had their chances just past the 10-minute mark. Booysen sent a header wide of goal before Bradley Grobler sliced his attempt wide. Mabena then had an opening at the other end but shot over.

The deadlock was broken in the 16th minute as Matsatsantsa took the lead. Dove Wome's cross picked out Booysen in the area before finishing from close range.

Stars almost responded immediately when a terrific cross from Zulu found Nhlapo, but his headed effort went over the United goal.

The traveling side were two goals clear in the 28th minute when Grobler found an unmarked Kingston Nkhatha who produced the finishing touch with a diving header.

The game slowed down towards the end of the half as United took their 2-0 lead into the dressing rooms.

Dikwena looked to reduce the deficit early in the second half with Tlou Segolela and Eleazar Rodgers warming Ronwen Williams' hands.

Rodgers continued getting into shooting positions but sent a header wide, before curling another attempt over the bar as the hosts slumped to defeat.

Here's how they lined up:

Platinum Stars: 16 Mlambo, 25 Nhlapo, 19 Mathias (Madubanya 68'), 22 Zulu, 2 Mere, 28 Mathe, 18 De Jongh (Rodgers 36'), 23 Segolela, 14 Tshabalala (Nyanda 56'), 22 Ng'ambi, 10 Mabena
