Orlando Pirates moved up to second spot in the Absa Premiership, with a 2-1 win over Maritzburg United at Orlando Stadium.
Justin Shonga fancied his chances in the 11th minute, after navigating through the left wing to take a strike from a difficult angle, but Richard Ofori made a comfortable save at the near post.
Thabiso Kutumela should have done better in the 21st minute, after he was sent through by Luvuyo Memela, but the former Baroka striker shot across the face of goal.
Kutumela eventually gave the Buccaneers the lead on the half-hour mark, following a brilliantly executed free-kick on the edge of the box, 1-0.
Kutumela nearly got his brace seven minutes before halftime, but his shot was spectacularly tipped over the crossbar by Ofori.
The chances were hard to come by in the last minutes of the half, as the home side were happy to go into the break leading 1-0.
Fadlu Davids made his first change at the beginning of the second stanza, by bringing on Kaizer Chiefs loanee William Twala in place of Mohau Mokate.
Happy Jele made it 2-0 three minutes into the second half, with a glancing header at the near post following a corner by Memela.
Just after the hour mark, Memela almost beat Ofori at his near post after, but the winger's cross kissed the upright.
Bandile Shandu rattled the upright three minutes thereafter from outside the box, with goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane well beaten.
Siyanda Xulu pulled a goal back for the Team of Choice in the 74th minute, with a stunning header following a cross from Lebohang Maboe.
Davids’ charges were probing with five minutes remaining, but the Buccaneers defence remained resolute as the home side returned to winning ways.
