Pirates were in control of the early exchanges and kept the ball very well with Arrows having to be alert defensively.

Thabo Matlaba almost made the possession count as he had a stinging from outside the box parried for a corner by Arrows keeper Nkosingiphile Gumede in the 12th minute.

Ten minutes later, Thembinkosi Lorch made an attempt from range which was easily handled by Gumede as Pirates looked to keep the pressure on Arrows.

Thabo Qalinge dribbled his way past a cluster of defenders and made it into the box but his eventual shot was superbly kept out by Gumede who was keeping Arrows in the game after 27 minutes.

It took Arrows 40 minutes to test Jackson Mabokgwane when left back Zolani Nkombelo fired in a thunderous effort which was well kept out by the Pirates keeper.

That proved to be the final action of the half as the teams went into the break tied at 0-0.

Clinton Larsen started off the half with the introduction of Andile Fikizolo in place of Nduduzo Sibiya in what was a tactical change.

Ten minutes into the second-half, Arrows had a great opportunity to grab the lead when Knox Mutizwa created space for himself in the box but his attempt at goal was a poor one and easily gathered by Mabokgwane.

Musa Nyatama tested Gumede in the 63rd minute but the goalkeeper kept out the midfielder’s attempt with the rebound being blasted well-over the posts by Justice Chabalala from close range.

With 17 minutes left on the clock, Pirates had another opportunity kept out by Gumede as Ntsikelelo Nyauza tried his luck from 12-yards out but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Arrows managed to hold on and claim a draw away from home after surviving constant pressure from Pirates, who have now failed to win their last six league matches.

Here's how they lined up:
