Super Sub Seals Victory For Title-Chasing Bucs
Result: Orlando Pirates 2-1 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 04 April 2018
Venue: Orlando Stadium
Augustine Mulenga came off the bench to net the winning goal as Orlando Pirates defeated 10-man Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 at Orlando Stadium.
Pirates started the encounter as the more aggressive outfit as they pushed for an early goal, but they were lacking the killer pass.
However, the Buccaneers eventually broke the deadlock on 16 minutes as Innocent Maela's pin-point cross was headed home by Musa Nyatama.
Thembinkosi Lorch looked to double the home side's lead after 25 minutes but his stinging long-range effort was brilliantly palmed away by Celtic shot-stopper Patrick Tignyemb.
Neither side could carve out another opening in the remaining stages of the first half, though, as Pirates took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Celtic wasted no time in finding an equaliser in the second half as Lorenzo Gordinho pounced on a loose ball to poke home from close range to level matters two minutes into the stanza.
Siyabonga Mpontshane came to Pirates' rescue on 62 minutes as he produced a fine save to keep out Ndumiso Mabena from close range.
In the 67th minute, Celtic were reduced to 10 men as Gordinho was shown a straight red card for a foul on Gabuza.
With 15 minutes remaining, Augustine Mulenga was introduced as Milutin Sredojevic sacrificed defender Happy Jele.
Mulenga made the perfect impact as he netted the winning goal three minutes after his arrival with a thumping strike into the top corner.
