Moments later, Justin Shonga nearly doubled the lead with a right-footed curler from the edge of the box, but Virgil Vries tipped the strike over the bar.
Innocent Maela was unlucky not to find the back of the net from the resulting corner, after his header hit the bottom side of the right post.
Memela made it 2-0 in the 19th minute with a simple tap in, after Shonga did all the work on the right side of the box to deliver a square pass.
Memela brilliantly bagged the third goal and his second of the match in the 28th minute, after combining with Matlaba to curl a left-footed strike into the top corner, 3-0.
Mduduzi Mdantsane pulled a goal back for Bakgaga in the 30th minute with a coolly converted penalty, after Gladwin Shitolo brought down Lucky Nguzana inside the box, 3-1.
Mpho Kgaswane nearly made it 3-2 in the 36th minute, with a free-kick that forced Jackson Mabokgwane into a superb save.
The match was open heading into the halftime break but Milutin Sredojevic's charges had the better chances and could have scored more but they went into the break leading 3-1.
Thabiso Kutumela had a glorious chance four minutes after the break, to extend Pirates' advantage but he blasted his shot over the bar from close range.
Moments later, Nyatama almost got his second goal of the match with another header inside the box at close range, but Vries somehow managed to make a block with his chest.
Nguzana was sent clear on goal a minute before the hour and slotted a left footed shot past Mabokgwane, but he was flagged for offside.
Lyle Foster was introduced in the 70th minute in place of Kutumela in a like-for-like change upfront for the Buccaneers.
10 minutes later, Phetso Maphanga came on for Shonga for his debut in a Pirates shirt.
The match was slowed down with five minutes left on the clock, as the hosts enjoyed a two-goal cushion and were comfortable enough to secure victory in the end.
