Ndoro Masterclass Leads Bucs Past Arrows

Absa Premiership

Result: Orlando Pirates 3-1 Golden Arrows

Date: 24 August 2016

Venue: Orlando Stadium

Orlando Pirates started their Absa Premiership campaign with a 3-1 win over Golden Arrows on Wednesday, after a hat-trick from Tendai Ndoro.

The Buccaneers had the first shot on target in the fourth minute when Oupa Manyisa pounced on a loose ball following a free-kick, but his attempt was tipped over by Mbaeva.

Arrows seemed content to give their hosts the lion's share of the possession while staying organised in defence and attacking with pace on the counter, with the likes of Mahachi providing the vehicle.

Abafana Bes'thende had their best opportunity of the half in the 35th minute. Jooste was put in behind the Bucs defence, which kept a high line, but then directed his shot into the side-netting.

The sides went into the dressing rooms still level at 0-0.

Only four minutes into the second half the hosts were in the lead thanks to Tendai Ndoro who scored from close range after great build-up play from Thabo Rakhale.

Arrows responded just past the hour mark to level matters. Ovono made a terrible mistake at the back which resulted in Mahachi hitting the post before Sibiya slotted the loose ball.

However, the Bucs were back in front six minutes later as Ndoro added his second. A pin-point free-kick from Mpho Makola found the striker at the far post and he did the rest with a composed header.

The result was virtually secured in the 76th minute as Ndoro's finishing school continued. He received the ball with his back to goal and turned before producing a stunning strike into the top corner.

The hosts were comfortable on the ball in the last 15 minutes and cruised to victory for three points.

Here's how they lined up:

Pirates: 42 Ovono, 2 Gcaba, 33 Gyimah, 4 Jele, 5 Makola, 8 Matlaba, 20 Manyisa, 12 Morrison (Qalinge 45'), 7 Ndoro (Nkosi 87'), 25 Rakhale (Kutumela 65'), 28 Sikhakhane
