A single penalty goal from Bongani Ndulula handed the Durban-based side the lead at the break, although the goal came against the run of play.

The Buccaneers controlled the possession stakes in the opening half, but did not offer much in terms of penetration or look threatening going forward.

The first shot on goal came in the fourth minute when Thandani Ntshumayelo let fly from 22-yards out, but his effort sailed wide of the goal.

Chances on goal after that were few and far between until a mistake by Rooi Mahamutsa in the 26th minute gifted Usuthu the chance to take the lead.

Pirates tried to be too clever at the back and pass their way out of defence which resulted in Mahamutsa losing the ball to Ndulula inside the box and then proceeded to foul the attacker in his desperation to win the possession back.

The referee awarded a penalty and Ndulula made no mistake from the spot, 1-0.

The Buccaneers tried to find their way back into the match but could not do so before the break.

The start of the second 45 saw Pirates continue to dictate matters and finally in the 62nd minute they managed to find the equaliser when Thabo Matlaba fired home from 14-yards out, 1-1.

The Buccaneers laid siege on the AmaZulu goal after that, but could not find the winner as the Usuthu defence stood firm and the points were shared.

The result measn both teams are still without a win in the league.
