Aces Deny Chiefs With Last-Minute Equaliser

Absa Premiership

Result: Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-2 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 12 April 2016

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs were denied a much-needed win in the Absa Premiership on Tuesday as Mpumalanga Black Aces equalised in stoppage time for a 2-2 draw.

Sibusiso Masina attacked the Chiefs flank in the seventh minute as he drove into their box. He had options to pass to his left but in the end took too many touches and lost the ball.

Lucky Baloyi then burst into action around the 10-minute mark. The Chiefs man dribbled towards the byline before his cross was blocked, and attempted over Mabokgwane from long range but was off target.

Aces had a great chance to break the deadlock when Aubrey Modiba attacked down the left before crossing for Masina, who headed just wide.

The opener arrived in bizarre fashion in the 21st minute. Siphiwe Tshabalala sent a diagonal bal into the box, but no one got on the end of it and it bounced into the back of the net with Jackson Mabokgwane in no-man's land.

Aces put pressure back on their visitors as Bhongolwethu Jayiya almost found Masina with a cross, but Daniel Cardoso intervened.

Bernard Parker came within inches of producing the second but his powerful shot hit the Aces woodwork, as the the visitors took a one-goal lead into the halftime break.

A mistake from Reyaad Pieterse almost cost Chiefs dearly in the 52nd minute. A standard back-pass from Cardoso was missed by the goalkeeper, who recovered just in time to block the subsequent shot.

However, few moments later Aces were level as  Mpho Matsi put a deft ball over the top for Jayiya who volleyed home with composure.

Amakhosi responded swiftly as they restored their lead just past the hour mark when Willard Katsande intercepted Limbikani Mzava's loose pass and smashed it into the back of the net.

Tshabalala, Twala, and substitute Pule Ekstein continued threatening towards the latter stages but it was Aces who found the equaliser in stoppage time as Zamuxolo Ngalo slotted a ball cut back from the byline.

Eric Mathoho had a last-gasp chance in the final moments of stoppage time, but sent his shot flying miles over the target, as Chiefs were forced to settle for a point.

Here's how they lined up:

Black Aces: 1 Mabokgwane, 4 Kobola, 22 Ngalo, 2 Mzava, 26 Nodada (Khuboni 60'), 10 Jayiya, 23 Matsi, 12 Modiba, 11 Ngoma (Moon 70'), 9 Mbesuma (C), 24 Masina (Moseamedi 46')

Chiefs: 1 Pieterse, 18 Moleko, 4 Cardoso, 3 Mathoho, 24 Masilela, 31 Katsande, 29 Twala, 35 Baloyi, 17 Lebese (Ekstein 76'), 25 Parker (Manqele 90'), 14 Tshabalala
