Swallows controlled the early exchanges, but suffered a set-back in the 23rd minute when captain Lefa Tsutsulupa had to leave the field injured and was replace by Chabangu.
It proved to be a significant change as Chabangu created the first goal in the 29th minute after his teasing cross from a left-sided free-kick was headed home by Luvhengo Mungomeni, 1-0.
AmaZulu tried to find their way back into the match, but were unable to level matters before the break.
The start of the second half saw Usuthu doing most of the pressing and they were rewarded with the equaliser in the 59th minute after Goodman Dlamini found the back of the net following a through ball from Marc van Heerden, 1-1.
AmaZulu’s joy, however, was short-lived as Chabangu handed Swallows the lead for the second time four minutes later after superbly turning home a Siyabonga Nomvethe pass, 2-1.
