Maritzburg United stretched their winless run in the Absa Premiership to seven matches after they drew 0-0 with Polokwane City.
The opening 10 minutes of the encounter was fierce, with both teams attacking with pace.
Mxolisi Kunene had a fantastic opportunity to grab the lead for the Team of Choice in the 23rd minute, but his left footed half-volley from the edge of the box sailed over the crossbar.
United had a better spell of possession after half-an-hour but were let down by their finishing.
Evans Rusike should have capitalised on sloppy defending five minutes before the break but, his right-footed strike missed the target by inches after the hosts' defence failed to clear the corner.
The game opened up in the last five minutes but both sides were taking shots from long range and were unable to find the target in a goalless first stanza.
The first 10 minutes of the second half lacked the urgency that the first half finished with, as both sides were slowly building from the back.
Rise and Shine were dominating after 65 minutes and looked more likely to find the opener.
In the 75th minute, the match started to open up again but the two sides were not good enough in the final third.
Jabulani Maluleke had a rare opportunity in the 86th minute to get the winner, following a counter-attack but he fluffed his chance inside the area.
The flow of the match slowed down in the last five minutes, as both sides made numerous substitutions and the match ended goalless as a result.
