Maritzburg United extended their winless run in the Absa Premiership with a goalless draw against Chippa United on Tuesday evening.
Both sides were in need of a victory to boost their respective campaigns, as both sides headed into the clash winless in their last four matches.
There was an open feel to the the early stages of the encounter, while Deolin Mekoa went close with an effort from distance after 15 minutes.
Chippa went close ten minutes later, with Ruzaigh Gamildien forcing goalkeeper Richard Ofori into a fine save with a powerful volley as Eric Tinkler's men upped the tempo.
Another chance fell for the visitors and Gamildien in the 38th minute, but Ofori came out tops once again after rushing off his line to thwart the attacker in a one-on-one situation.
That proved to be the final chance of the first stanza, as the sides headed into the break level pegging, although the Chilli Boys looked more threatening.
After a quiet start to the half, the Team of Choice had a chance to break the deadlock on 65 minutes when Mokate was played through on goal, but the forward saw his goal-bound effort blocked.
When Maritzburg managed to bypass the Chippa defence, they were met by goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who produced a fine save to deny Fortune Makaringe in the 76th minute.
The hosts had a chance to win the game in the 89th minute, but Brian Onyango directed his header over the crossbar as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
