Result: Maritzburg United 0 - 2 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 12 September 2015
Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium
Bloemfontein Celtic added salt into the wounds of Maritzburg United when they beat them 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
Both sides came out firing as they looked to get an early goal before anyone got settled.
After a couple of half-chances, it was Kurt Lentjies who got the crowd on their feet when he almost grabbed the opener in the 12th minute, but Patrick Tignyemb managed to parry the ball away. United continued to look threatening but the visitors were beginning to gain momentum as the half progressed.
Celtic were looking good after the 25th minute minute, and it was only a matter of time before Thapelo Morena produced the goods with clinical strike to hand the Bloemfontein outfit a 1-0 advantage after 39 minutes of play.
The hosts looked a bit rattled by the goal and before they could regroup Musa Nyatama stepped up to head the ball past a helpless Virgil Vries right on the stroke of half-time to ensure Siwelele went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Bloemfontein Celtic continued where they left off after the restart and Vries was called into action five minutes in when he parried a Nyatama shot to keep the deficit of two goals from widening.
Mandla Ncikazi’s men upped the tempo as the half progressed in search of an equalizer, but Lyle Lakay almost grabbed a goal for Celtic in the 60th minute before Mohammed Anas had a good chance parried away by Tignyemb three minutes later.
Both sides continued to have a go at each other but the defended came out tops and 2-0 is how the clash ended.
