Champions Wits Drop Points At Struggling Maritzburg

Absa Premiership

Result: Maritzburg United 0-0 Bidvest Wits

Date: 25 November 2017

Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium

Bidvest Wits' struggles in the Absa Premiership continued, after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Maritzburg United.

The two sides could not be separated in the opening 10 minutes of the half, as both sides looked to find their rhythm.

The game's first chance arrived after 22 minutes, as Maritzburg's Bavan Fransman rattled the crossbar with a close-range header.

The sides were struggling to make any headway in the respective final thirds, and they were restricted to efforts from distance.

Unfortunately, Chances were few and far between in the final 10 minutes of the first stanza and the sides went into the break scoreless.

Shortly after the break, Darren Keet was called into action, as the Wits shot-stopper produced a good save to keep out Yazid Atouba's volley.

The Clever Boys went agonizingly close to taking the lead on 68 minutes, as Eleazar Rodgers' header hit the crossbar.

Fadlu Davids opted for a double change with 15 minutes remaining, as Lebohgang Maboe and Mohau Mokate were introduced.

The Absa Premiership threw on James Keene for Rodgers in the closing stages as they pushed for a winning goal.

Both sides threw numbers in an attempt to bag a late winner; however neither could create a clear cut chance and were forced to settle for the draw.

Here's how they lined up:

Maritzburg: 31. Ofori, 3. Sanoka, 25. Xulu, 16. Fransman, 26. Shandu, 19. Rusike, 5. Weidlich, 36. Kunene (Mokate 71'), 10. Atouba (Maboe 73'), 8. Ndlovu, 29. Mekoa.
