Winless Maritzburg Deny Wits Three Points

Bidvest Wits rued their missed opportunities as they drew 0-0 with winless Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday evening.

Both sides looked to play an open game from the onset, although chances were hard to come by in the opening 15 minutes of the encounter.
 
Darren Keet was called into action on 20 minutes as he produced a fine save to keep the Team of Choice at bay, as both sides looked to up the tempo.
 
However, chances were few and far between in a half that was filled with a lot of tackles, much to the displeasure of both coaches at times.
 
The situation seemed to boil over after just before the break when Wits assistant coach Paul Johnstone was sent off for his reaction to an incident on the field.
 
Wits went close to breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute as Deon Hotto picked out Mxolisi  Macuphu from the left flank, but the strike sent his effort over the bar.
 
Macuphu squandered another big chance 10 minutes later as he failed to steer his header past Richard Ofori from six-yards out, with shot-stopper making the save.
 
With 16 minutes remaining, Fadlu Davids opted for a change as debutant Yannick Zakr made way for Mohau Mokate as the visitors pushed for a winner.
 
Mokate nearly sealed the win for Maritzburg in second-half stoppage time, but the striker was denied by a superb save by Darren Keet as the spoils were share on the night.
