Absa Premiership
Result: Maritzburg United 2-4 University of Pretoria
Date: 9 April 2016
Venue: Harry Gwala Stadium
University of Pretoria secured a crucial 4-2 victory at Maritzburg United on Saturday to move out of the relegation zone.
The hosts had the first chance of the clash in the third minute when Zulu had a go from the edge of the box, but his effort flew over the bar.
At the other end of the pitch Mnyamane's corner kick posed a real threat for the United defence but they managed to eventually scramble the ball clear.
A Mnyamane set-piece caused problems for Maritzburg again in the 22nd minute. He swung in a free kick that picked out Maruping, but his headed effort went wide of the target.
Only two minutes later it was the Team of Choice who drew first blood. Deolin Mekoa made a great run and produced an even better finish to give his side a 1-0 lead.
Both sides were looking to attack as half-time approached, with Zulu testing Coetsee at one end before Ntombayithethi fired wide at the other.
Three minutes into the second stanza the scores were level again thanks to Mpho Maruping who won a header from Ngubane's cross which he directed home.
The equaliser seemed to give the visitors a boost as they took control of the tie with Luyanda Bacela drilling a low shot home for a 2-1 lead.
Four minutes later the travelers were two goals clear as Bacela found the back of the net to complete his brace and put his side firmly ahead.
The result was secured for the visitors on the hour mark as Atusaye Nyondo put the ball in the back of the net.
Zulu pulled one back shortly thereafter from Sanoka's cross, but it wasn't enough to impact the result for Maritzburg.
The hosts were awarded a penalty, giving them a chance to get within a single goal of Tuks, but Kurt Lentjies could not convert it.
Here's how they lined up:
Maritzburg: 13 Verbauwhede, 6 Teyise, 45 Mngonyama, 2 Onyango, 19 Mogapi, 27 Mekoa D, 23 Zulu, 19 Rusike, 29 Lentjies, 14 Booysen, 3 Banda
