The home side certainly showed their intentions from the onset, as they searched for the opening goal, however their decision-making in the final third was not up to par.

Maritzburg's Ryan Moon had the first decent chance of the game after 22 minutes, as he did well to lose his marker but ended up heading wide of the upright from close range.

After a barren spell in the first half, the hosts went close in the 40th minute when Deolin Mekoa played in Evans Rusike, who forced Shu-Aib Walters into a superb save from 12-yards out.

Aces should have taken the lead two minutes later, as Judas Moseamedi put the ball on the plate for Bhongolwethu Jayiya, however the midfielder failed to make contact with the ball from six-yards out.

The score remained level as the sides entered the break.

Ernst Middendorp introduced Sheldon Van Wyk shortly after the goal and the winger almost made an immediate impact, but he somehow fired into the side-netting with only Walters to beat from close range.

The hosts were made to rue that miss, as Aces doubled their lead in the 74th minute as Glen Verbauwhede did well to save Nodada's volley, but the rebound struck Moseamedi and sailed into the net.

Maritzburg continued to push for goal and were camped in the Aces half, although they struggled to beat a water-tight defence during the final 15 minutes, as the score remained 2-0 to the visitors at the final whistle.
