The Brazilians made only one change from their goalless draw with ASEC Mimosas in the CAF Champions League, as Emiliano Tade got his first alongside Gaston Sirino in the attack.

Despite a slow start, Masandawana opened the scoring in the tenth minute as Themba Zwane played a one-two with Gaston Sirino before slotting past George Chigova at the near post.

Salulani Phiri almost levelled matters for City in the 18th minute with a long range strike that was smothered by Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango as Rise and Shine upped the ante in search of an equaliser.

The combination of Tade, Sirino and Zwane certainly caused problems a number of problems in the final, but they were unable to mount another serious opening at Chigova's goal.

Sundowns were coasting until the stroke of halftime when Onyango failed to hold on to Salulani Phiri and deflected the ball into his own net to hand Polokwane the equaliser.

The Tshwane giants increased their intensity early in the second stanza and Zwane almost restored their lead two minutes before the hour after being picked out at the back post but his half-volley was blocked at a crucial moment.

Sundowns were forced to make their first change with 20 minutes remaining  as Wayne Arendse went down colliding with Tiyani Mabunda. He was replaced by Mosa Lebusa.

Five minutes later, Zwane had another great chance for Masandawana at the near post after unleashing a low strike that was saved by City goalkeeper Chigova.

Mosimane threw on Anthony Laffor for Tade in the closing stages as Sundowns went in pursuit of a winning goal to move top.

However, Polokwane defended deep and frustrated Sundowns as they manage to claim a point on the road as Sundowns remain in second spot ahead of Saturday's clash with Bidvest Wits.
