Bucs Crush League Leaders Sundowns

Absa Premiership

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-3 Orlando Pirates

Date: 13 January 2018

Venue: Loftus Versfeld

Orlando Pirates put in an impressive display as they defeated Absa Premiership leaders Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 at Loftus Versfeld.
Ntsikelelo Nyauza fired the Buccaneers ahead in the second minute, with a powerful left-footed strike inside the box that found the roof of the net, 0-1.
Themba Zwane should have equalised in the seventh minute, after pouncing on a loose ball inside the six-yard box, but Jackson Mabokgwane made a brilliant save with his trailing leg on the line.
Percy Tau had an opportunity to bring Masandawana level in the 11th minute, but his gliding header from close range was tipped away by Mabokgwane.
Mpho Makola punished the Brazilians in the 18th minute after with a fine low strike into the bottom right corner, 2-0.
Luvuyo Memela missed a glorious chance in the 32nd minute, after going one-on-one with the goalkeeper Denis Onyango, but his attempted lob sailed over the bar with the net gaping.
Even minutes before the break, Tau reduced the deficit with a clinical left-footed strike from the left side of the box after Inter-changing passes with Zwane.
Memela was unlucky to see his right-footed strike hit the upright moments later, as Pirates went into the break leading by the one goal.
Three minutes into the second half, Tau was unfortunate after he found the back of the net with a composed finish inside the six-yard box but was flagged for offside.
Milutin Sredojevic made his first alteration 10 minutes into the second stanza by bringing on Thembinkosi Lorch in place of Shonga while Pitso Mosimane threw on Anthony Laffor in place of Sibusiso Vilakazi a few minutes later.
Laffor should have equalised in the 65th minute after going clear on the left side of the box but he could not find the target with only Mabokgwane to beat.
The match was still open with 15 minutes left to play as both sides had chances on either side of the pitch but were not as clinical as in the first half.
However, Memela made it 3-1 to the Buccaneers eight minutes before time with a powerful left-footed strike inside the box that left Onyango with no chance
The goal was a killer-blow for the Brazilians as the visitors ran out 3-1 winners on the day.
