Full Time: Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 AmaZulu
Date: 31 August 2014
Venue: Loftus Stadium
A brace from Cuthbert Malajila handed Mamelodi Sundowns their first home win of the season after beating AmaZulu 2-0 in an Absa Premiership match at Loftus stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was a lively start to the game with both sides on the attack from the first whistle, but the side from Durban had the better chances despite the Brazilians seeing more of the ball.
AmaZulu created the first opening two minutes in when Goodman Dlamini met corner-kick with low 16-yard volley, but Kennedy Mweene produced a fine save to deny him.
Two minutes later a goalmouth scramble inside the Sundowns box saw Sedat Ouro-Akoriko in space ten-yards out, but he fired into the side netting.
Sedat Ouro-Akoriko was in the thick of the action again in the 23rd minute when he met a free-kick floated into the Sundowns box, but his 12-yard header struck the post before the home side cleared the danger.
Two minutes later Sundowns created their best chance of the half when Surprise Moriri met corner-kick, but his six-yard header was cleared off the goalline by Nhlanhla Shabalala.
On the half hour mark Shabalala tried his luck at the other end, but he saw his 22-yard volley skim the wrong side of the post.
Neither side could find a goal as the half ended all-square.
Sundowns piled on the pressure at the start of the second half and were rewarded with the opening goal on the hour mark when Cuthbert Malajila superbly headed home a Tebogo Langeerman cross, 1-0.
Seven minutes later Malajila found his second goal, this time heading home a Surprise Moriri cross, 2-0.
Sundowns continued to control the game after that, but failed to add to their tally.
