Paez & Zuma Send Chiefs Into Confed Cup Spot

Absa Premiership Report: Kaizer Chiefs v Maritzburg United 28 April 2018

Absa Premiership
Result: Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 Maritzburg United
Date: 28 April 2018
Venue: FNB Stadium
Goals from Gustavo Paez and Dumisani Zuma handed Kaizer Chiefs a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at the FNB Stadium.
Chiefs came into the game hoping to put a week of bad results behind them after they lost 3-1 to Golden Arrows during the week and Free State Stars in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals last weekend.
Gustavo Paez was given the nod in attack as Leonardo Castro missed out through suspension, while Sibsiso Khumalo was also given a rare start.
Both sides looked lively in the early stages of the encounter, while George Maluleka fired wide with an effort from distance after 13 minutes.
Chiefs had the ball in the back of the net after 21 minutes, but the goal disallowed due to an offside.
The Soweto giants did take the lead nine minutes later, though, with Paez firing past Mpandle.
Fadlu Davids' men did not sit back and looked to get an equaliser but the Chiefs defence stood for the remainder of the half.
The hosts continued to push for more goals in the second half, with Bernard Parker and Siphiwe Tshabalala going close in the opening 15 minutes.
Chiefs were rewarded for the dominance with 20 minutes remaining as Dumisani Zuma doubled the lead with a clinical finish over Mpandle.
With Chiefs comfortably leading, Patrick Mabedi introduced Edmore Chirambadare and Philani Zulu for the final 10 minutes.
Maritzburg failed to bypass the Chiefs defence in the closing stages as the hosts held on for the win.
Here's how they line up:
Chiefs: 32. Khune, 4. Cardoso, 20. Ngezana, 2. Mphahlele, Khumalo, 23. Molangoane, 13. Katsande, 12. Maluleka, 25. Parker, 14. Tshabalala, 9. Páez.

2018 10:40 AM Paez offers nothing. Not chiefs material. They need a box player a real goal scorer. Not some to look good. Just some who just scores. simple. To many players do silly tricks all the time but no end product like Ekstein nothing happens. How many goals and assists does he have this season.

Steve was let down by Ekstein in many occassions. He should have fielded Zuma more often as he packs a vemon with his shooting abilities. At training Ekstein dribbles past Mathoho and co and Khompela thought that he is good.

The headline is misleading bcs Chiefs is yet to secure the Caf Confederation Cup slot as they sit on 45points and Maritzburg United on 43points,should Chiefs fail to get maximum points on the 12th of May and Maritzburg United get maximum points against Golden Arrows,Chiefs will miss out. What will the editor day about this headline then?
