Chiefs Drop Points At Home To Arrows
Absa Premiership Report: Kaizer Chiefs v Golden Arrows 23 September 2017
Resul: Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Golden Arrows
Date: 23 September 2017
Venue: FNB Stadium
Kaizer Chiefs' stuttering Absa Premiership form continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Golden Arrows.
Chiefs should have taken the lead after 14 minutes when Siphiwe Tshabalala picked out Gustavo Paez, who fired wide from six-yards out.
Steve Komphela's charges were in control for most of the first half, and they particularly threatening whenever Tshabalala was on the ball.
Paez nearly gifted Chiefs the lead after 34 minutes when his cross-cum-shot was superbly tipped over the crossbar by Nkosingiphile Gumede.
Arrows, on the other hand, spent most of the half sitting deep with the hope of catching Chiefs on the break.
Chiefs pushed for a goal in the closing stages of the first half, and went close just before the break as Tshabalala's free-kick was tipped away Gumede.
William Twala was introduced at the start of the second half for Chiefs, and could have broken the deadlock in the 51st minute but he blazed over from 12-yards out.
Dube came to Arrows' rescue in the 57th minute as he produced a timely challenge in the box to deny Paez from scoring in the six-yard box.
Clinton Larsen looked to add more bodies in the attack, and he introduced Knox Mutizwa for Mduduzo Sibiya after 67 minutes.
Chiefs carved out a chance in the 78th minute when Twala's cross found Tshabalala, who headed straight at Gumede.
Itumeleng Khune came to Chiefs' rescue in the 85th minute, as he produced a fine finger-tip save to keep out Jooste's powerful effort.
Mutizwa had a chance to win the game in stoppage time, but Khune rushed off his line to deny the striker as the clash ended goalless.
0-0 was how the encounter ended, but Chiefs also suffered a blow late in the game when Khune stretchered off following a collision with Mutizwa.
