Date: 7 August 2018
Venue: FNB Stadium
A hapless Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 3-1 defeat to Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership match at FNB stadium on Tuesday night.
It was a timid start to the game with the first real opportunity falling the way of Chiefs in the 18th minute when a pin-point cross from Ramahlwe Mphahlele picked out Leonardo Castro, but the Amakhosi striker headed wide from ten-yards out under no pressure.
Wits took the lead five minutes later when a thunderous long-range shot from Dean Hotto found the top right corner of the net, 1-0.
In the 33rd minute Chiefs managed to level matters when Castor headed home a beautiful free-kick into the box from the left by Khama Billiat, 1-1.
The Amakhosi almost took the lead five minutes before the break when Castro got onto the end of a low left-wing cross from Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, but the striker’s shot went just wide from 12-yards out.
In the 43rd minute Wits re-took the lead when Terrence Dzvukamanja met a left-wing cross from Sifiso Hlanti at the back post and duly headed home from close range to make it 2-1 at the break.
Two minutes into the second half Wits scored their third goal after a swift counter-attack saw Gift Motupa through on goal and he made no mistake with just Itumeleng Khune to beat, 3-1.
Erick Mathoho should have pulled a goal back just before the hour mark when he met a corner-kick from Bernard Parker, but under no pressure he headed wide from six-yards out.
In the 76th minute, Billiat came within inches of finding the back of the net when a 20-yard free-kick from the Zimbabwean shaved the wrong side of the post.
