Impressive Baroka Down Chiefs To Go Top
Absa Premiership Report: Kaizer Chiefs v Baroka 30 September 2017
Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-2 Baroka
Date: 30 September 2017
Venue: Moses Mabhida Stadium
George Maluleka's goal was not enough as goals by Lewis Macha and Gift Mothupa handed Baroka an important 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs.
Chiefs did not wait long to get their engine going as they found a breakthrough early on in the game.
Philani Zulu made a great run down the left side before playing in Bhongolethu Jayiya outside the Baroka box. Jayiya set up George Maluleka who struck a powerful shot from outside of the box to give Chiefs a 1-0 lead.
Baroka looked to respond quickly with Richard Matloga blazing Zulu before crossing for Sipho Moeti who placed his shot wide from close range. The winger Matloga outdid his man again and crossed in for Siphelele Ntshangase this time, who scuffed what should have been a clear shot at goal.
A beautifully played in free kick by Ntshangase was headed home by Lewis Macha to level matters for Baroka.
It was an intense battle in midfield which saw the teams cancel each other out for the most part and the teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1.
Baroka FC were playing good football and through that they made their way into the Chiefs box where Gift Mothupa blazed Daniel Cardoso and fired the ball into the roof of the net to give Bakgaga a 2-1 lead.
Tshabalala was granted an opportunity to bring Chiefs to level terms after a Hendrick Ekstein cross but the winger saw his tame effort saved.
Ekstein was pulling the strings in the middle and threatened to equalise after twisting and turning his way out of trouble before firing his shot just wide of goal.
Baroka were pinned back for a while as Kaizer Chiefs searched for the equaliser but Bakgaga stood firm in defense and held on for a well-played 2-1 victory which sends them to the top of the log.
Here's how they lined up:
