Giovanni Solinas once again tinkered with a winning line-up, as the likes of Bernard Parker, Lebogang Manyama and Siphelele Ntshangase returned to the line up.
Parker, who replaced Gustavo Paez, struggled to justify his starting role early on, as he missed a couple glaring chances in the opening 20 minutes that could have put Chiefs into a healthy lead.
While the front three struggled in front of goal, defender Daniel Cardoso nearly put Chiefs ahead in the 34th minute by rattling the woodwork from 12-yards.
The goal eventually arrived for Chiefs minutes before the halftime break, with Ramahlwe Mphahlele volleying past Moeneeb Josephs after Usuthu failed to deal with a corner.
The Soweto giants continued to dominate upon resumption in the second, with Khama Billiat causing a number of problems.
Siyabonga Ngezana eventually did double the lead for Chiefs two minutes before the hour with a glancing header inside the box following a good cross into the area by Billat.
Billiat should have got the third goal for the Glamour Boys in the 66th minute after being gifted space and time inside the box, but he could not connect with a clever flick from Manyama.
As the second winded down, Mabhuti Khenyeza had a good chance to pull a goal back for Usuthu 11 minutes before time but Amakhosi shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune spread himself to prevent the veteran striker from scoring.
The Glamour Boys were not in any danger of losing their points towards the end of the match as they stayed compact at the back to clinch all the three points.
