Aces Shock Chiefs

Absa Premiership

Full Time: Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 MP Black Aces

Date: 9 April 2014

Venue: FNB Stadium

It was a frustrating night in the Absa Premiership for Kaizer Chiefs as they could not breach the MP Black Aces’ defence no matter how hard they tried, and try they did, but all in vein as Miguel Timm scored in the 94th minute to hand the side from Mpumalanga a 1-0 win in the league match at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result combined with Mamelodi Sundowns’ 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic saw the Amakhosi drop to second on the log, three points behind the Brazilians but with a game in hand.

The first 45 minutes was a half dominated by the home side, but they struggled to break down the Aces defence with their intricate passing on the edge of the box and instead opted to shoot from long range.

Siphiwe Tshabalala was the first Chiefs man to try his luck from distance in the fifth minute, but he fired narrowly over from 24-yards out.

Three minutes later George Lebese unleashed a stinging shot from distance which took a deflection and luckily for the Aces’ keeper, who was wrong footed, the ball sailed just wide.

In the ninth minute Tefu Mashamaite met a corner-kick with a glancing header, but he saw his effort from ten-yards out go wide of the target.

Aces first effort on goal came a minute later when Tendai Ndoro shot from an acute angle on the right side of the box, but he saw his effort strike the side-netting.

In the 14th minute Tshabalala played Lebese into space 18-yards out, but his shot was well-saved by the keeper.

Ten minutes later the Aces keeper was called into action again when he produced a fingertip save to deny Bernard Parker from a 24-yard free-kick.

The best chance of the half actually fell to Aces on the half hour mark when a quick break out saw Abia Nale play Ndoro through on goal, but he fired inches wide form 16-yards out.

Aces then had a penalty appeal turned down, when Ndoro went down from a  Willard Katsande tackle.

Chiefs had the last say of the half four minutes before the break when Parker headed a Tshabalala corner-kick centimetres over the crossbar from four-yards out.

The half ended 0-0.

Chiefs started the second half the way they finished the first and squandered a golden scoring chance two minutes after the restart.

Parker whipped in a perfect left sided free-kick which was met by an unmarked Kingston Nkhatha, but he headed wide from eight-yards under no pressure at all.

In the 62nd minute Parker was able to breach the Aces defence, but he fired his shot straight at Jackson Mabokgwane from eight-yards out with just the keeper to beat.

Ten minutes later Parker missed another guilt-edged chance when Katlego Mphela squared the ball from the by-line on the right side, but the Chiefs striker shot over from six-yards out with an empty net at his mercy.

Chiefs missed another great chance in the 83rd minute when Willard Katsande met a left-sided free-kick from Tshabalala, but he also headed inches wide of the goal.

It was not to be for Chiefs on the night and that was underlined when Aces scored in the 94th minute of the match.

A swift counter-attack saw Nale play Timm behind the Amakhosi defence and he made no mistake poking the ball past Itumeleng Khune, 1-0.
