Cosmos Upset Blunt Chiefs With Late Winner
Result: Kaizer Chiefs 0-1 Jomo Cosmos
Date: 15 March 2016
Venue: FNB Stadium
Jomo Cosmos netted a late winner at FNB Stadium on Tuesday to earn three massive points against an ineffective Kaizer Chiefs attack.
The hosts were in control of possession from the early stages and often attacked through William Twala and Camaldine Abraw who combined on numerous occasions.
Twala had room to set himself up for a shot in the 25th minute but wasted it as he directed his effort wide of goal.
A few minutes later it was Twala who led the charge again as he attacked down the right before crossing into the danger area, but Nsabiyumva was up to the task and blocked it.
Twala was at it again as he marauded down the left on this occasion to cross for Abraw to shoot on the half-volley, but Mthembu was well positioned to make the block.
Pule Ekstein came on around the hour mark and almost made an immediate impact as he combined with the lively Twala before his shot was saved by Modiba. The ball rebounded for Twala, but his shot was blocked.
Twala did some terrific work on the left wing in the 75th minute as he beat his marker to cross towards the far post, but his teammates were too slow to react.
The game seemed to slow down as time ticked away but with only a few minutes left it was Cosmos who produced the winner as Mxolisi Macuphu hammered the ball into the top corner of Itumeleng Khune's goal with the visitors' first shot on target.
