Toothless Chiefs Held To Goalless Draw By Ajax

Absa Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 0-0 Ajax Cape Town

Date: 16 April 2016

Venue: FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs' winless run continued on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Premiership.

The clash was off to a cagey start as neither side were able to create any clear-cut chances and were content to build slowly and probe for openings with caution.

In the 30th minute the game saw its first shot on target as Willard Katsande smashed the ball from outside the area, but Anssi Jaakkola did well to save.

Chiefs put some pressure on Ajax as they threatened again with Siphiwe Tshabalala warming Jaakkola's hands three minutes after the first attempt on target.

The hosts had some momentum behind them and came close again as Shabba played Bernard Parker through, but his shot was wide of the near post.

Mdabuka had a shot on target for Ajax but it was tame and Pieterse saved easily. William Twala then saw arguably the best chance of the half when he shot from the angle, but Jaakkola was up to the task.

Chiefs had an early chance in the second half when a cross from the right picked out George Lebese at the far post, but he couldn't control the ball with his chest and the opportunity went begging.

Tshabalala instigated a number of attacks for the home side, often setting up the likes of William Twala, but his shots at goal lacked precision.

Asive Langwe came off the bench to replace Norodien and almost made an immediate impact as he crossed for Nathan Paulse, but his shot went just wide of the far post.

Ajax had their best chance of the game in the 79th minute when a terrific cross from Langwe found Paulse in the area, but the forward directed his header onto the near post.

Chiefs had a late chance via Parker who was one-on-one with Jaakkola, but the goalkeeper pulled off another good save to claim a point for Ajax.

Here's how they lined up:

Chiefs: 1 Pieterse, 18 Moleko, 4 Cardoso, 3 Mathoho, 24 Masilela, 31 Katsande, 29 Twala, 35 Balyoi, 17 Lebese, 25 Parker, 14 Tshabalala

Ajax: 32 Jaakkola, 2 Mabaso, 18 Mobara, 3 Coetzee, 5 Lebusa, 6 Graham, 31 Norodien, 8 Mdabuka, 29 Paulse, 20 Isaacs, 14 Morris
