Wits Grind Out Three Points At Cosmos

Absa Premiership
Result: Jomo Cosmos 0-1 Bidvest Wits
Date: 13 April 2016
Venue: Olen Park
Bidvest Wits kept the pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Jomo Cosmos in the Absa Premiership on Wednesday.
The first close call of the game came in the 13th minute when a Cosmos attack concluded with a volleyed shot at goal rattling Moeneeb Josephs' woodwork.
Wits carved out their first real chance in the 24th minute when Daine Klate bent a set piece into the box where Sherwyn Naicker fumbled it, allowing Henrico Botes to tap it home for a 1-0 lead.
Ezenkosi came close to levelling matters as they surged into the Wits area, but Allie did great work to defend, snuffing out the danger in the six-yard box.
The Clever Boys held on to their lead until the break and tested Naicker again shortly thereafter as Sibusiso Vilakazi tried his luck with a half volley.
At the other end Thabang Monare threatened to equalise as he unleashed a venomous effort at goal, but saw it fly only just wide of the goal.
In the last 20 minutes Cosmos pushed for their equaliser, creating a handful of chances, but the Wits defence did well to keep them out and grab three vital points.
Gavin Hunt's charges still trail Sundowns by four points with six games left to play.
Here's how they lined up:
Cosmos: 89 Naicker, 2 Nsabiyumva, 14 Mthembu, 33 Zulu, 12 Mashumba, 4 Monare, 23 Mntambo, 6 Kumalo, 26 Madonsela, 14 Mngomezulu, 8 Madolo.
