Date: 28 April 2017
Venue: Makhulong Stadium
Bidvest Wits kept their Absa Premiership title hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium.
Granwald Scott opened the scoring for the Clever Boys with a fine strike from the edge of the box, 1-0.
In the 25th minute, Sifiso Hlanti made brilliant run on the left wing and setup Mogakolodi Ngele whose header went straight into the hands of the goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini.
Gordon Igesund's side could not build their attacks from the back and were forced to play long balls.
However, in the 39th minute Vincent Pule made it 2-0 for Gavin Hunt's charges with a clinical finish from close range after some good work by Eleazar Rodgers and Scott.
On the stroke of half-time Peter Shalulile had a great shot saved on the line by the goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs to keep the score at 2-0.
The Lions of the North had a half to forget as they hardly troubled Hunt's charges except for one chance shortly before the break.
In the 57th minute the Tembisa side brought in the striker Fikru Lemessa for midfielder Thanduyise Khuboni as they were now going for broke.
Ten minutes later Hunt made a substitution of his own bringing as Mogakolodi Ngele made for the experienced Daine Klate.
The tempo of the match had not picked up as the Clever Boys slowed things down, playing a possession game and in no hurry to make quick attacks.
However the introduction of Brendon Theron in the 80th minute added energy into the side as he troubled Josephs shortly after coming on for Franklin Cale.
However, that proved to be the final chance for the home side, as the Clever Boys held on for three points.
