Result: Golden Arrows 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
Date: 10 December 2017
Venue: Princess Magogo Stadium
Mamelodi Sundowns reclaimed top spot in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
Sundowns got off to a great start as their early pressure paid off when Bangaly Soumahoro pounced on a rebound and put his team ahead in the fifth minute through a great volley.
Arrows looked to hit back and came close to doing just that when a quickly taken free-kick led to Kudakwashe Mahachi rattling the woodwork, with Denis Onyango well beaten.
With half an hour gone, both teams were showing great attacking intent but the defensive units on both sides stood firm, with no goals being added.
Good build-up play in the 32nd minute saw Lerato Lamola setting up Knox Mutizwa whose shot from outside the box was pushed over the bar by Onyango in the Sundowns goal.
However, the final 10 minutes of the half failed to provide any clear-cut chances at goal as Sundowns went into the break with a one-goal advantage.
After a quiet start to the second half, Arrows were on the offence as Mahachi went down in the box but his appeal fell on deaf ears as Victor Gomes waved play on with 58 minutes gone.
Arrows were the better looking team as they pinned Sundowns back with continuous attacks which unfortunately yielded no goals.
Sundowns fought back and almost increased their lead in the 70th minute after a cross from Thapelo Morena was met by a volley from Sibusiso Vilakazi, but Nkosingiphile Gumede did well to repel the effort and deny the visitors another goal as the score remained 1-0.
Clinton Larsen's charges did not let up and they continued to push for an equaliser, while Pitso Mosimane introduced Yannick Zakri with 13 minutes remaining.
Arrows did go close to bagging an equaliser in stoppage time, but Onyango produced a fine save to ensure Sundowns left the Princess Magogo Stadium with three points.
