Goals from Gabadinho Mhango and Lehlohonolo Majoro, guided Bidvest Wits to a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows, in an Absa Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon.
Mzwanele Buthelezi was close to opening the scoring for Arrows in the fourth minute, but his header went sailed straight at Darren Keet.
After a quiet spell, Mhango nearly found the back of the net in the 25th minute, with a low powerful shot from the edge of the box but missed slightly wide.
Mhango broke the deadlock five minutes with a fine header at the near post, in a very tight angle following a cross from Sifiso Hlanti, 0-1.
The visitors were awarded a penalty five minutes before halftime, after a handball inside the area by captain Trevor Mathiane. Majoro stepped up and sent goalkeeper Maximilian Mbaeva the wrong way to double the visitors' lead.
Thabang Monare picked up an injury in the stroke of halftime and was replaced by Phumlani Ntshangase.
Mhango had a glorious chance to get his brace five minutes into the second stanza, after going through clear on goal but his curling strike sailed slightly over the bar.
Abafana Bes’thende got a penalty of their own on the hour-mark, after Buhle Mkhwanazi brought down Lerato Lamola inside the box, but Knox Mutizwa could not capitalise as he hit the upright from the spot-kick.
The hosts got another lifeline after being awarded a second penalty 15 minutes before time and this time Limbikani Mzava made no mistake from the spot-kick, 1-2.
Clinton Larsen’s troops pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but the visitors held on in the end for crucial three points away from home.
The clash ended on a sour note for both sides, as Jabulani Shongwe and James Keene were sent off for an altercation in second-half stoppage time.
