Result: Golden Arrows 3-2 Baroka FC
Date: 13 May 2017
Venue: Princes Magogo Stadium
Golden Arrows moved three points clear of Orlando Pirates after recording a thrilling 3-2 win over Baroka FC at the Princes Magogo Stadium.
It was the visitors who applied the early pressure in the game and looked to be a motivated team when in attack. Good intricate play in the opposition half saw the men from Limpopo get the first shot of the match from which went over the bar.
Arrows were not to be outdone though and they showed their intent as well with some neat passing that saw Knox Mutizwa taking a shot from inside the box which was well saved for a corner by Baroka shot stopper Ayanda Dlamini. The first 20 minutes saw very few opportunities arise for both teams as both defenses seemed to be alert to danger.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute when Siphelele Magubane capped off a good attacking spell with a fine strike to give his side the lead.
Baroka were looking to fight back and posed an attacking threat and in the process left themselves vulnerable at the back, but Dlamini was able to restrict the hosts to just the one goal which saw Arrows go into the break with the lead.
The second half started at pedestrian pace as neither team found rhythm early on.
Baroka looked the more ominous team as the half progressed and after several deflected shots, they found the equaliser through a Victor Letsoala goal to level the scores after 70 minutes.
The tables turned quickly as Arrows found their rhythm in the second half and were rewarded when Lerato Lamola regained his team's lead with a neat finish after some good offensive play.
Baroka looked deflated by the goal and Arrows were quick to capitalise as Kudakwashe Mahachi scored his team’s second goal with a fine lob to propel his side to a 3-1 lead after 76 minutes.
The visitors refused to give up and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal by Letsoalo who got his and his teams’ second on the day to make the score 3 – 2.
Bakgaga were awarded a penalty in stoppage time when Nkosingiphile Gumede was adjudged to have committed a foul. Richard Matloga scored the penalty but the effort was ruled out after a Baroka player had entered the box before the ball crossed the line.
